Rich Wilkerson Jr – Worth Dying For: Is There Not A Cause?

We all have a cause whether we know it or not. Every single day, we give time and energy to things, ideas, people and places that matter to us most. Or so we say. If we audit the behaviors and habits in our lives, we’d be able to determine if we’re connected to the causes that hold true value.

With a new collection of talks titled “Worth Dying For,” Pastor Rich Wilkerson, Jr. explores the story of David, in a sermon called “Is There Not a Cause?”

David’s story depicts a young man who was constantly overlooked and underestimated by everyone around him, even his own family. Yet, his time in obscurity as a lowly shepherd would eventually propel David into notoriety as King of Israel. Out in the field faithfully tending sheep, David was being prepped for the biggest fight of his life.

When David took on Goliath’s challenge to fight, he didn’t doubt his own God-given abilities or back down in the face of fearful soldiers telling him victory wasn’t possible. He confronted the giant to prove no one could defy God’s army and get away with it. David’s cause of courageously trusting in God in battle had the effect of an against-all-odds win for an entire nation.

As believers, we all have giants in our lives – obstacles that stand in the way of our purpose and destiny. Sometimes those giants paralyze and prevent us from doing all that God wants us to. But we’ll never conquer what we ignore and the longer we let fear linger, the larger it becomes. It’s better we stand in the knowledge that God is for us and our cause is worth a showdown with our giants.

In order to see a change in the effects of our lives, we have to be willing to take inventory of where we spend our time, what we talk about and what we fight for. Only then will we clearly see whether or not the causes we’ve stood for are worth living for.
