While Western Christians are far removed from the agricultural societies that were so common during Biblical times, the metaphors may seem strange. What does it mean to “bear good fruit” or that we’ll be “grafted into the vine?”

Today on #CrackYourBible, we’re at V. Sattui Winery in Saint Helena, California, in Napa Valley. While the agricultural metaphors used in the Bible were instantly recognizable to the people in Jesus’ day, many Western Christians are far removed from the farming communities and the may not understand the picture that Jesus was demonstrating with His metaphors. Let’s find out what it means when the Bible says, “I am the vine,” or “branches will be good for nothing but the fire.”

From the Bible we know:
• Jesus is the vine, God the Father is the vinter, and Christians are the branches that are to bear good fruit! John 15:1-6
• Jews, if they believe in Jesus, can be grafted back into the vine. Romans 11:23-24
