The Meaning of Pentecost – Pastor Obed Martinez

In this video

1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. – Acts 2:1-4 (NIV)

3 After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days [ten days] you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” – Acts 1:3-5 (NIV)

THE FEASTS FULFILLED
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. – Matthew 5:17 (NIV)

A. THE FEAST OF PASSOVER
For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. – 1 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)

THE OLD TESTAMENT:
• The Passover Lamb Sacrificed at 12:00pm
• The Lamb was roasted and eaten by 3:00pm
• The Sacrifice covered their sins

THE NEW TESTAMENT IN JESUS

Pente – Five
Costa – To the Tenth Power

• God wrote His law on the tablets of stone
• 3000 people died
• God established the Nation of Israel

THE NEW TESTAMENT:

C. THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES
THE OLD TESTAMENT:
• They were wondering and living in temporary huts
• They were brought into their final home
• They celebrated it during the harvest season
• Also called the feast of tabernacles

THE NEW TESTAMENT:
• We are living on this temporary earth
• We will be brought to our final home in Heaven
• There will be a great final Harvest of people
• There will be a trumpet sound when Christ returns

15 We tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not meet him ahead of those who have died. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the believers who have died will rise from their graves. 17 Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever. – 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 (NLT)

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

They stood there amazed and perplexed. “What can this mean?” they asked each other. – Acts 2:12 (NLT)

1. HE EMPOWERS ME TO LIVE RIGHTEOUSLY
‘In the last days,’ God says,‘ I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams – Acts 2:17 (NLT)

But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. – Romans 8:9 (NLT)

2. HE EMPOWERS ME TO LIVE SUPERNATURALLY
4 And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. 5 I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God. – 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 (NLT)

3. HE EMPOWERS ME TO FULFILL HIS MISSION

“PENTECOST IS ABOUT EMPOWERING BELIEVERS WITH SUPERNATURAL ABILITY TO FULFILL AN IMPORTANT MISSION”
