“The Real You” series – Week 1: You Are Dead To Sin!

In this video

Do you feel like you struggle through life and no matter how hard you try, there never seems to be lasting peace? Well, I’ve got Good News for you!

As a Believer in Jesus, you have been co-crucified with Christ; therefore, you are dead to the power of sin! This is very good news! Believing this truth results in you living the overcoming life in Christ Jesus!

Here’s that link I mentioned in the video of my “Jesus In The Driver’s Seat” page:
https://www.sandramccollom.com/jesus-in-the-drivers-seat/

The Real You series is all about me reminding you what’s true about you in Christ! Why is this a big deal? Because, even if there is something that is true about you, if you either don’t know it or refuse to believe it, it won’t do you one bit of good.

Here’s the foundational verse for this series!

2 Corinthians 5:17 (AMPC)
Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!

Here are some comments from others about this video:

“Sandra, You really explained this so well, especially for people who may be questioning what it means to trust and accept Christ. I can so relate to reading The Word without Grace glasses as you shared I couldn’t help but get teary because it’s such a exhausting treadmill, but now so grateful God is transforming my heart in Him and recognizing how to set healthier limits for myself. This was so encouraging. Thank you! Praying God’s unfailing love on your journey as you share.” – Melody from DeSoto, MO

“Yes, its not a good idea to live out of that old identity! Learned that the hard way!” – Nichole from Naperville, IL

“This is the true Gospel and this is what people need to hear. We have been taught to manage the behavior, sin nature and the old man. God killed him off and we celebrate his death in baptism. We arise a new creature. The whole Christian life day by day is about us growing into who we already are. Keep teaching the true good news of the simple Gospel. Great Stuff.” – William from St. Louis, MO

Romans 6 (TPT)
The Triumph of Grace over Sin
1 So what do we do, then? Do we persist in sin so that God’s kindness and grace will increase? 2 What a terrible thought! We have died to sin once and for all, as a dead man passes away from this life. So how could we live under sin’s rule a moment longer? 3 Or have you forgotten that all of us who were immersed into union with Jesus, the Anointed One, were immersed into union with his death?

6 Could it be any clearer that our former identity is now and forever deprived of its power? For we were co-crucified with him to dismantle the stronghold of sin within us, so that we would not continue to live one moment longer submitted to sin’s power.
7 Obviously, a dead person is incapable of sinning.

Me: “What is going to happen when we really believe this?”

Romans 6 (TPT)
Sin’s Reign Is Over
12 Sin is a dethroned monarch; so you must no longer give it an opportunity to rule over your life, controlling how you live and compelling you to obey its desires and
cravings. 13a So then, refuse to answer its call to surrender your body as a tool for wickedness.
14 Remember this: sin will not conquer you, for God already has! You are not governed by law but governed by the reign of the grace of God.

Romans 6:10
When He died, He died once to break the power of sin. But now that He lives, He lives for the glory of God. (NLT)

Galatians 5:22-25
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. (NLT)

Me: “So my friend, I’ve got great news for you. If you are a Believer in Jesus Christ (a follower of Jesus) then you should consider yourself dead to sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus. The more you believe it, the more you’ll live it!”
