T.D. Jakes Sermons: Rise Above

In this video

Watch highlights from T.D. Jakes sermons in the series, Rise Above. Taking excerpts from “Defying the Urge to Quit” and “Put it Behind You,” Bishop Jakes focuses on what it takes to live an excellent and fulfilling life.

First, in “Defying the Urge to Quit,” he highlights Paul’s words in 2 Timothy 4:7: I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith (KJV).

Sometimes, the journey isn’t easy, and it takes fight to keep going. Paul didn’t quit. Whatever he may have lost, he held on to his faith. Likewise, we shouldn’t give up when the race gets hard. We must stay focused, put one foot in front of the other and endure to the end. “It’s not about winning,” T.D. Jakes says, “it’s about finishing.”

Next, in “Put it Behind You,” he focuses on David’s sorrow and dilemma during the illness and death of his child. His servants were afraid to tell him that his child had died, fearful of how he would react and what he might do. But David saw them whispering and knew something had happened. T.D. Jakes emphasizes the words in 2 Samuel 12:19 that David “perceived that the child was dead.”

So much about life is about perception. Our perception affects our reality: “As a man thinketh…so is he.” If you have bitterness, regret, unforgiveness in your head, it will negatively affect your life, and you will never be able to move forward.

Bishop Jakes urges The Potter’s House to leave the past behind. Don’t let your yesterdays destroy your tomorrows. Every burden, worry, doubt, and setback must be set aside for you to rise above.
