• Cities of Refuge were set up in Israel. Numbers 35:6
• These sanctuary cities were set up for people who committed manslaughter. Numbers 35:11-15
• The Israelites were not allowed to take a ransom in exchange for a lighter sentence. Numbers 35:31-32
• The death penalty required the testimony of 2 witnesses. Numbers 35:30
• Innocent people were wrongly accused and put to death. 1 Kings 21
• God got his vengeance on those who wrongly put people to death. 2 Kings 9
• Manslaughter was still punished in Israel. Numbers 35:22-25
• If anyone ever left the City of Refuge, they’d be subject to the Avenger of Blood. Numbers 35:26-28
• Bloodshed pollutes the land. Numbers 35:33-34
• God doesn’t want His people to intermarry with idolaters. Exodus 34:11-16, Ezra 9:11-12
• Laws had to be applied equally to native and foreign born people in Israel. Numbers 9:14
• If foreigners wanted to participate in Passover, they had to assimilate. Exodus 12:48-49
• Solomon’s 1,000 wives and concubines led him into idolatry. 1 Kings 11:1-4
• Because the Israelites couldn’t keep God’s commands, He sent them into slavery. 1 Kings 11:10-12, Habakkuk 1:5-7
• God requires us to submit to our government. Mark 12:14-17, Romans 13:4-7
• Ruth had to assimilate to be under the protection of Israel. Ruth 1:15-16
