Today on #CrackYourBible, we’re talking about helping vs enabling people in need. While Christians are supposed to be charitable, the Bible has no time for lazy lizards and gossips who want to spend their days drinking wine and hanging out on the church’s (or taxpayer’s) dime. What does the Bible say about welfare and are Christians being unchristlike by not supporting open borders or programs such as welfare?

From the Bible we know that:
God disciplines those that He loves. Proverbs 3:12
Discipline is painful, but brings righteousness. Hebrews 12:11
God watches over the foreigner, the widow and the orphans. Psalm 146:9
Native born and foreigners must abide by the same rules. Leviticus 24:22
You are not to oppress a foreigner or hired worker. Deuteronomy 24:14-15
A widow must be aged 60+, the wife of one husband and have a good reputation to be allowed to receive Church charity. 1 Timothy 5:9-10
Young widows need to get remarried and have kids. Family is to take care of poor family, so as to not burden the church. 1 Timothy 5:11-16
We’re to do all things in love. Colossians 3:5-14
If you don’t work, you don’t eat. Everyone is to earn their own living. 2 Thessalonians 3:10-12
